Alcohol Addiction - its Causes and Effects in Women are Different from those in Men : Alcohol rehab Drug rehab treatment
by Androx Smith
voteHave you ever thought that alcohol could exercise gender discrimination as far as its causes and effects on human beings are concerned? Well, it does. Studies show that alcohol effects in women are far more severe than those in men. No good for either of them, alcohol is particularly harmful among the fairer sex. It can even prove to be fatal to great degree putting your life at serious stake. True that prevention is a hundred times better than cure but once the damage is done, that is, if you are already an alcoholic, an alcohol rehab is perhaps the right place for you to be in.
It has been tried and tested in multiple instances that a man and a woman taking in equal amounts of alcohol will strangely show a distinctly higher level of BAC (blood alcohol content) in the woman. The two genders possess different physical attributes resulting in a different level of alcohol effect on each of them. Also different hormone levels make women more susceptible to alcohol. Admittance into a quality alcohol drug rehab center and enrolling for a relevant alcohol and drug treatment is the right step towards recovery.
A higher rate of emotional problems in women have been potentially responsible for their act of turning to alcohol addiction. It is a proven fact that women tend to resort to alcohol to cope with different mood swings, loneliness, stress, obesity and bouts of depression. They comfortably bask under the misconception that alcohol assistance will rid them of their problems and thereby lift their spirits and confidence by leaps and bounds. On the contrary, the poisonous liquor leaves you absolutely spent and lost. Some of the common crisis situations that lead a woman to alcohol addiction are listed as follows:
Miscarriage Divorce Unemployment Violence Homelessness Unlawful carnal knowledge Family abuse
Worse still, the alcoholic women run themselves into the risk of a bagful of diseases as listed below:
Liver problems Sterility and various childbirth complications Cancer Heart problems (heart disease, etc.) Lack of nutrition Brain deterioration Osteoporosis Suicidal tendencies
With so many life threatening diseases putting your life risk on the worst edge, all females would desperately like to go for an escape from them. An alcohol addiction rehab center is the answer to this situation. The various drug abuse rehab facilities offered at a leading alcohol addiction treatment center will ensure a genuine and long lasting recovery. The latest updated infrastructure, adept medical professionals, personal attention and your undying willpower go on to make normalcy out of one's present state of hell.
It is actually a pity that alcohol has its adverse effects on women more than men. But, when you come out of your alcohol addiction rehab after your treatment program comes to a full circle, you will be a different person - ready to chuck away your alcohol affinity and take on the world and its pressures with panache.

Unconventional Drug And Alcohol Treatment - Is It For You? : Alcohol rehab Drug rehab treatment center review
by Tony Palmer
Are you looking for an unconventional drug and alcohol treatment program? Well you are not alone. The conventional twelve step program for alcohol and drug abuse treatment espoused by Alcoholics Anonymous (AA) is not for everyone.
The "Higher Power" Problem
For one thing, AA's twelve steps emphasize reliance on a "higher power," or spiritual being, and atheists or agnostics, who don't believe in a god, feel disenfranchised from a drug and alcohol treatment program that goes against the grain of their personal beliefs.
AA tries to be both a conventional and an unconventional drug and alcohol treatment program, and tries to include these outliers, by teaching that each individual going through recovery can use his or her own idea of god as they work through the twelve steps, regardless of their religious beliefs.
However, the term "God" is so enmeshed in the AA literature and philosophy, addicts who have had negative experiences with religion or who simply do not believe in a god have a hard time adapting to AA, and they seek unconventional alcohol and drug treatment programs that do not rely on a belief in a god or a higher power.
The Criminal Justice Problem
Because of the separation of church and state ordered by the U.S. Constitution, and because of the pervasiveness of the "higher power" in AA treatment, some courts have held that defendants in the criminal justice system, who are being sentenced for drug and alcohol related crimes, cannot be required to attend AA meetings as a condition of their probation or parole. These defendants need to have the alternative of an unconventional alcohol and drug treatment program that does not require belief in a spiritual being.
Unconventional Drug and Alcohol Treatment Centers
One successful unconventional drug and alcohol treatment center describes its treatment as a "social based drug and alcohol rehab treatment alternative for addiction recovery and alcoholism." Information about this unconventional alcohol treatment center suggests that traditional twelve step programs don't work, and that alcoholism is not a disease.
These unconventional drug and alcohol treatment centers focus on "common sense solutions" and change behavior by using recovery plans with specific elements and goals. Since the program teaches that alcoholism is not a disease, clients of the program are taught that they are empowered to change their behavior without the aid of a higher power or spiritual being. This really is a step in the right direction. Unconventional drug and alcohol treatment programs have a high ratio of staff to guest. Most programs offer lots of fun activities to fill the hours between instruction sessions and motivational lectures. Campral is the most recent medication that has been approved for the treatment of alcohol dependence, and although it is not completely understood how the drug works, the idea is that it works in the brain to help people maintain alcohol abstinence. It is believed to be able to restore a certain chemical balance in the brain that has been disrupted by certain factors in the person's life.
Drug rehab is becoming more accessible to those that seek help. : Alcohol rehab Drug rehab treatment center review
by drughelp
With over 11,000 treatment facilities in the United States today along with a growing awareness in the media of the drug and alcohol problem, government and private centers are striving to help more and more people each year. Many of these centers have expanded their programs to suit more needs of the addicted and new treatment centers are opening almost weekly around the country.
Just take a look at the recent programming on television:
Intervention on A&E Celebrity Rehab on VH1 True Life on MTV
Let alone all the exposure that many celebrities like Brittany Spears, Lindsay Lohan, Nicole Ritchie and Paris Hilton.
There is more and more attention being given to this mortal and traumatic issue of addiction. Help finding treatment is necessary.
Separation from drugs and alcohol is usually the first step in the treatment process. Newer modalities for detox are coming available in recent times. For most people, a comfortable medical detox is in store at many of these facilities. In addition, there are even protocols that cater to those who are unable to leave their jobs for long periods of time.
Residential treatment programs are the long-standing proven methods of substance abuse recovery. One of the rules of thumb to use when considering a treatment center is: "the longer the better." Research has shown that the longer a person stays in a rehab, the better his/her chances for success in recovery from drugs and alcohol.
Outpatient treatment is becoming more common in several areas around the country. A multitude of these centers are usually available in every corner of every city. For those who cannot afford a residential program or simply cannot remove themselves from their home and/or work life, outpatient can serve as an excellent alternative.

17 Drug And Alcohol Abuse Relapse Triggers : Alcohol rehab Drug rehab treatment center review
by Gabriel Adams
Recent deaths of Hollywood stars Brad Renfro and Heath Ledger have many people wondering why these talented actors or those around them fail to get help. The VH1 smash reality show, Celebrity Rehab clearly shows the struggles stars face when they attempt to enter a rehab program. Like it or not, the world has watched Britney Spears throw away a stellar career and two beautiful children to her addictions. Continually, she tries to solve problems without the support she truly needs. What people fail to realize is that drug addiction or alcoholism cannot be permanently cured or removed and there are at least seventeen triggers that can lead to relapses.
The most important key to avoiding a setback is to get away and stay away from old friends that drank or got high with you. If you find yourself in an environment where your former vices are being passed around, leave immediately and never return. Another on this list involves cutting ties with a spouse or significant other who drinks or uses drugs. It is painful but important.
A third danger involves skipping meetings with your sponsor. Support groups are essential if you wish to succeed. Cravings are going to rear their ugly head. If you have skipped numerous meetings or blown your sponsor off, you will not feel you have the right to call on them when you most need support. Along this line comes another potential trigger. If you find yourself thinking about your drug use, it is time to seek help.
It is critical to keep all appointments with your doctor. Coming out of a drug or alcohol addiction is potentially life threatening. Your body can go into shock. Remember that addiction is one of the hardest obstacles to overcome. In fact, the sixth trigger to watch for is thoughts that you are strong enough to kick the habit without any help. Strength is a great quality, but no one has the power to kick a drug or alcohol addiction alone.
As soon as you enter into a recovery program for drug or alcohol addiction, have a friend or family member go through your house with you. Throw out any alcohol, narcotics, and/or drug supplies. You will know where your hidden locations are, so be honest when pointing them out.
Creating a daily routine can help keep the troubles to a minimum. As you progress through a rehab program, you can start to alter your routine slightly, but you still need to make sure your day follows a certain pattern so that your mind does not have time to wander.
Please remember that breaking a drug or alcohol habit is going to have ups and downs. Do not allow yourself to dwell on the bad spots. Depression, anxiety, and rage are common side effects as you break your drug or alcohol habit. Your doctor will be able to help you manage them before you cause harm to yourself or others. Another potential trigger occurs when depression or anxiety does act up and you switch your addiction from one drug to another. If you quit one addiction, it is crucial that you not start up another.
If you have been hurt or disappointed, one of the basic twelve-steps in an AA program is to forgive or be forgiven. Often addictions are tied to situations from the past. It's important to move past the bitterness or regret and start anew.
Number 14 on the potential trigger list deals with facing a life change. If you are working on breaking a habit and then add another issue like getting married or losing your child to your spouse (aka Britney Spears), the odds are slim that your recovery process will be successful. In fact, it is important to focus on getting better first and then work on other problems one at a time.
As you continue the path to kicking drugs and/or alcohol, you must learn to identify your most common causes and warning signs that precede a craving or rough spot. By identifying them early, you will be able to seek support much earlier. And this leads into the 15th trigger--know your limitations and when you need to seek help from your doctor, sponsor or support group.
Allowing troubles to go unchanged will only lead to more cravings - number16 on the list. Stressful, anxious thought patterns or feelings are common reasons people list as to why they drink or use narcotics. If you let personal issues fester, you are far more likely to return to your bad habits.
Finally, never stop using medications your doctor has prescribed. Some prescriptions are there to help you get past the dangerous side effects of withdrawal--pain, nausea, etc. Kicking your addiction is not pretty. Some even die during the process from withdrawal. The prescriptions are there to save your life! Even if you are feeling better, you need to keep taking them until your doctor says otherwise.

Drug Rehab Costs Are Chump Change Compared To the $Billions Big Pharma Spends On Marketing : Alcohol rehab Drug rehab treatment center review
by Rod MacTaggart
Big Pharma is spending almost twice as much money on promotion as it does on research and development of new drugs - contrary to what they say. And the effects of all this promotion can be seen across the country where tens of thousands of prescription drug problems are treated at drug detox and drug rehab centers.
In 2004, according to researchers at Canada's York University, Big Pharma spent nearly 25% of their $235.4 billion in sales, or about $60 billion, promoting its drugs - and that's probably an underestimate, the researchers said. But in spite of the industry's claims that research and development far exceeds all other costs, R&D expenditures were only 13.4%. The relentless marketing of drugs to the public as well as to doctors can't help but be a factor in the soaring rates of prescription drug addictions and numbers of people requiring prescription drug detox and drug rehab.
Because of the endless television, print, radio and internet advertising, prescription drugs have become a way of life for most Americans. But Big Pharma's promo costs are not just for advertising, they also include many other promotion activities. For example, Big Pharma promotes its brands directly to individual doctors in the hope their drug will be prescribed over another company's drug. The industry averaged $61,000 per doctor promoting its drug brands to physicians across the country in 2004, the study said. Yet doctors and medical staffs can have trouble keeping up with all the drugs, according to articles in medical journals, causing mistakes such as wrong drug combinations, overdoses, and even addictions that result in patients becoming dependent or addicted and needing drug detox or drug rehab.
The authors limited their study to the United States because it is the only country for which sufficient information is available. The US is the world's largest market for pharmaceuticals, representing 43% of global sales and promotion expenditures. With over 22 million prescription drug abusers, according to the Centers for Disease Control, America also probably has the most prescription drug deaths, addictions and prescription drug rehab treatments in the world. As for why our health care costs are also the highest in the world, one need look no further for at least one of those reasons: Big Pharma passes along its promotional costs to us in the price of its drugs.
The study claims that Big Pharma is market-driven, far from the research-driven, life-saving health-care industry it claims to be. But of course, we already know that by the increasing numbers of injuries and deaths caused by prescription drugs, and the sky-rocketing number of people needing a prescription drug rehab program.
California Drug Treatment Center Succeeds Where Other State Programs Fail : Alcohol rehab Drug rehab treatment center review
California Drug Treatment Center Succeeds Where Other State Programs Fail
by Arthur McCloud
Matt battled drug addiction for fourteen years, but thanks to a California Drug Treatment Center, he now has a chance at living a drug free life. His journey to get the help that would save his life, started seven years ago when his mother, Lola, found Narconon Vista Bay, a California Drug Treatment Center, on the internet. Impressed with the program's success rate and treatment methods, Lola knew that Narconon was the right choice for her son. However, obstacles lay in her path as Matt, caught in the Oregon Corrections system, could not leave the state. Instead of attending the California Drug Treatment Center, Matt was placed in a state run drug rehab.
However, within two months of completing the drug rehab, Matt was back to using drugs and committing crimes. The program simply could not handle all of the problems most addicts face. Matt's dad explained, "I've come to realize that [the corrections system] is really good at putting addicts in jail or half-way houses, but they don't offer the full spectrum of treatment that an individual needs." One program even required that Matt have thirty days clean before they would even admit him. "If I could get Matt clean for thirty days, then he wouldn't have needed the program, now would he?" his mother exclaimed.
Unfortunately, many drug treatment centers only deal with certain aspects of the rehabilitation process, and many addicts return to using drugs as Matt did. A few years later, Matt found himself in another state run program, but his experience there ended up much like his first experience - full of anxiety and fear. The meetings, the group therapy and the sober living environment were not enough to keep Matt clean.
His father knew he was on a suicide mission. If Matt stayed on this path he would end up dead or locked up for good. His parents decided to seek help one more time. His Mom got on the internet and, once again, came across the California Drug Treatment Center's website, www.drugrehab.net, that she had come across all those years ago. She called determined that one way or another she would get her son to the California drug treatment center.
Despite the legal problems that Matt faced, the staff at the California drug treatment center eased Lola's concerns and in her own words, "made it happen." The staff ensured that Matt's legal issues were handled and shortly after, Matt admitted himself into the treatment center.
Narconon Vista Bay's philosophy is to increase those suffering from drug addiction awareness levels to a point that they can make positive choices and live a drug free live without anxiety and without fear.
Completing the California drug treatment center's program was not easy. There were challenges to overcome, demons to face, and baggage to let go of, but Matt did it. Now, he is a graduate. "I can say with sincerity I'm happy and I'm happy to be sober."
At Matt's graduation from the California drug treatment center, his father said to the group of seventy people who had gathered, "To everybody, I can't say how much this California drug treatment center has done. I can hear it in my son's voice. I can see it in his attitude. I'm confident in Matt and I believe in him."
Drug Rehab Programs Must Address Mind, Body And Spirit : Alcohol rehab Drug rehab treatment center review 2008
by John Frank
Although many people believe that addiction is simply a psychological disease or a spiritual affliction, one that could be handled simply by the force of sheer willpower, those who suffer from addiction know better. Many drug rehab programs focus on only the psychological aspects of addiction and believe that by handling the addict's mind the addiction can be cured.
However addiction affects the mind, the body, and the spirit and all three of these aspects must be addressed in order to overcome addiction. When only the mind has been addressed in a drug rehab program, then the addict is still left with physical and spiritual afflictions caused by addiction. When addicts are told to turn their power over to a force outside themselves and that this is a necessary step in combating their addiction, the addict's mind and body still suffer, and the likelihood of recovery is minimal.
Those drug rehab programs falter in that they fail to address the mind, the body, and the spirit. It is no wonder that so many drug rehab programs have such low success rates. 12-Step programs focus on the mind and the spirit by addressing addiction as a disease, one that an addict is powerless over. Other programs focus on only the mental aspects and believe that through therapy that addresses the reasons why an addict turned to drugs then an addict can cure the addiction. Still other programs simply believe that after a few days of detoxification, the addict's body is recovered. None of these methods, although helpful in the short term, provide a long-lasting solution to addiction.
A successful drug rehab program understands that the mental, spiritual, and physical aspects must be completely handled in order for the addict to overcome addiction, and that it is an investment in one's future life.
Mentally, the drug rehab program must provide a safe environment where the addict can deal with the issues that led him or her to drugs in the first place. In addition, the drug rehab program must help the addict change thinking patterns so that when faced with challenging issues, the addict has new and productive ways of dealing with life.
Physically, the drug rehab program must provide a detoxification program that thoroughly cleanses and returns the body to a state that is not affected by drug residues that remain in the body. If a drug rehab program does not offer a full and complete detoxification program, the addict will continue to be triggered or negatively affected by the residues left in the body.
Spiritually, the drug rehab program must understand that each individual addict perceives the spirit in a different light. The drug rehab program must respect these differing beliefs and allow the drug addict to follow his own opinion and belief system about what the spirit is, regardless of what anyone else believes.
The drug rehab program that addresses the mental, physical and spiritual aspects of addiction will give the drug addict the power to completely overcome his addiction. His mind will be healed. His body will be cleansed. His spirit will be realized. And his addiction will be left in the past.
